Renate Sommer: 2015,AB-Türkiye arasında jubile yılı olacak (english)
Avrupa Parlamentosu AP Hıristiyan Demokrat Grubu Türkiye raportörü Alman CDU Renate Sommer,AP Türkiye raporu sonrası yaptığı açıklamalar dikkat çekti.Türkiye-AB Karma Parlamento Komisyonu üyeside olan Sommer,2015 yılını Türkiye-AB ilişkilerinde jubile yılı olarak niteledi.
Regarding today’s adopted resolution in the European Parliament on the current progress report on Turkey by the European Commission, MEP Renate Sommer
(CDU), EPP Group rapporteur on Turkey, stated:
“2015 is a jubilee year, which is unfortunately not a reason for joy. Since the start of the accession negotiations ten years ago reform in Turkey has decreased frighteningly. Problems remain as in the past: corruption, the massive restriction of press freedom, lack of rule of law and the Turkish resistance, even provocative attitude in the Cyprus issue are just some examples. Under this policy, the EPP Group in the European Parliament has decided to reject the opening of new chapters. We will no longer let Turkey lead us by the nose.
Due to the strict position of the EPP Group, the socialist parliamentary rapporteur was not only forced to postpone the vote originally scheduled for May, but ultimately to make compromises. The entire resolution risked being rejected by the European Parliament otherwise. The now adopted resolution therefore bears the signature of the EPP Group. Calls for the opening of new negotiating chapters are off the table; moreover we call for a reassessment of the negotiation.
Turkey is and will remain an important neighbour, trading partner and ally in the fight against terrorism for the European Union – but that alone is not enough. A clear commitment to the fundamental values of the EU is required so that it makes sense again to proceed with further cooperation, in whatever form. With our resolution we have sent a clear signal to Turkey. This demonstrates our support for the democratic forces in Turkey against the anti-democratic and anti-European regime of the ACP.”
